Data licensing

A license, not a sale. A copy, not your company.

A buyer gets a copy of selected records, for one purpose and a set time. You approve every deal, you keep the originals, and your lawyer reads the draft first.

How a license works

Four steps, in this order.

1

Scope

A buyer says which records it needs. You hear about it before anything else happens.

2

Owner approval

You review the request and say yes or no. Bring your lawyer. Nothing moves before then.

3

Contract

Purpose, term, limits and fees go into one agreement. You see the draft before you commit.

4

Delivery and reporting

Names get removed, the buyer gets a copy, and you get payment.

In every license

Limits are written down, not implied.

A defined purpose

Data may only be used for the purpose written in the license.

A fixed term

Every license has an end date.

Usage limits

No resale, no sub-licensing, no use outside the scope.

Deletion at the end

When the term ends, you can license the data to additional buyers.

Audit rights

The owner can ask for evidence the terms are being followed.

Revenue reporting

Every payment appears on a statement.
